The Stamford Mercury of 17 December 1852 reports that a Mr. Pridmore, farmer of Sutton St. James was charged by Mary Snushall of being the father of her illegitimate child. “The young woman, who was respectable, had been betrayed under as promise of marriage”. He was ordered by Spalding Magistrates to pay 2s 6d per week in maintainance. In the 1851 census, Thomas Pridmore aged 22 is shown living next door to Mary Jane Snushall, a visitor at the address, aged 21.
